Romeo and Juliet at Pennsylvania Castle

Star-crossed lovers under the Portland stars this summer at Pennsylvania Castle

The award-winning outdoor theatre company ‘Illyria’ is set to visit The Pennsylvania Castle Grounds with an exciting production of Romeo and Juliet this summer.

Bursting onto the scene in 1992, Illyria has produced high-quality outdoor theatre for over thirty years. During that time, they’re proud to have continually introduced new genres which subsequently have became much-loved staples of open-air theatre.

Two wealthy families, the Montagues and the Capulets, are at war. But when Romeo (Montague’s son) meets Juliet (Capulet’s daughter) everything changes. The pair fall into a forbidden love with devastating consequences. Performed by Illyria in the great outdoors, this Shakespearean classic is passionate, poetic, and utterly gripping!

This beautifully spoken production, performed outdoors, is passionate, poetic and utterly gripping!

The show takes place at Pennsylvania Castle Grounds, whatever the weather, on 23rd July, 6pm. Please bring your own chairs and blankets. The Hayloft Cafe will be open for light bites and drinks. You are also welcome to bring your own picnics.

Running time (approx): 140-minutes (including a 20-minute interval). Suitable for all ages.
