Lockdown – April 2020
This is our first post since the UK went into lockdown, so we wanted to provide you with a quick update of the Estate.
Everybody across the UK and around the world has been trying to quickly get used to a very different way of life, as we all grapple with the challenges of the current pandemic. Like many in the hospitality sector, we are a business who really thrives each year as we come into the Spring so we have taken some time to make the right decisions and try to find our way through this unusual start to the season.
Naturally, our priority has been the wellbeing of our staff, to ensure they can manage through this difficult period and be ready to return as soon as we can reopen the Estate. We made the conscious decision not to put all staff in furlough as we also need to be prepared to reopen as soon as we can and be ready to welcome back our guests. The next step, which will be ongoing as we navigate the next few weeks and months, is to ensure all our guests’ bookings are being managed in the right way, reflecting the changes within the current lockdown and beyond.
Your emails and calls are all still being managed as they usually would, just with a team member now working from home rather than from the Estate Office. People are still making bookings with us for holidays and events to look forward to in the future, so please continue to make enquiries and we will be very happy to help. We are working on the basis that at some point, hopefully in the not too distant future, we will reopen in a way that meets the government guideline at that time and as always we will be transparent about the best way for us to manage that.
Next year we will have been in business at the Castle for 10 years. This season was due to be our most successful yet with the biggest season of Castle weddings, a record number of holiday rentals across the Estate and of course, the opening of our long awaited Clifftops development – which we will now be waiting just a little bit longer for. It is hard for everyone involved, having to close when you are about to launch into a great summer season. We love providing a bit of joy and perhaps some sanctuary to all our guests, whether they are staying in the Castle for a week or a Pod for the night, so we feel it too when we have to postpone weddings and move holidays for people. But we are also lucky in many ways, we have a strong team who are all safe and well at this time which is all anyone can wish for just at the moment, and we know that as soon as we are able to, we will be welcoming many of you back to enjoy the view and reflect on what has been an extraordinary time in all our lives.
We obviously don’t know yet when that will be, but we will do all we can to keep in touch and update you on our plans as the government measures for the coming weeks are announced. In the meantime, we will continue to update the website and our social media channels so as always we’d love to hear from you….
