The Penn Estate Sail-Work programme is designed for sailors training for competitions or a sailing career and are at a stage that they need flexible employment to pursue their goals.
The programme’s priority is to fit employment around training and competing. We aim to remove the need to regularly persuade your employer to give you time off to prepare and compete. The team at the Penn Estate understands that the participants priorities will be their sailing career. We will work with you to fit work around sailing.
As a starting point we will ask you to register with us and set up your availability, based upon your training and competition programme. Then we can create a rota for your work around your sailing commitments.
Our aim is to create a “pool” of competitors with whom we can work together to ensure Estate obligations can be fulfilled. The Estate Administrator will work with you, matching your availability with opportunities for work. You will be able to agree with other participants if you want to swap “shifts” (subject to the Administrators sign off). Monthly salaries are paid based on minimum work availability agreed with the participant.
Participants need to demonstrate that they are on a sailing career path or competition programme. Work training will be provided. You can expect to be asked to do a range of work across the Estate which includes cafe, bar, events, maintenance, office work.
The initial programme is for April to September with the possibility to continue on a full-time basis.
